Even as we take the day off, how do we meaningfully celebrate the Easter season with our children? Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!\u201d&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Ask a question<\/em>: Why did people shout \u201cHosanna\u201d? Hosanna means \u201cSave please\u201d! In those days, people thought Jesus had come to save them from the Roman rulers. But today we know that Jesus came to save us from our sins.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Do an activity:<\/em> <strong>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/almostunschoolers.blogspot.com\/2012\/04\/hosanna-rock-last-minute-triumphal.html\">The Rock Cries Ou<\/a>t\u201d<\/strong><br><br>(i) Prepare a small rock for your child.\u00a0<br><br>(ii) Have the child glue two googly eyes on it.\u00a0<br><br>(iii) Cut out a rectangular piece of paper. Put some glue on one end and roll it around a toothpick. He washed his disciples\u2019 feet like a servant would do before the masters have a meal. He also gave his disciples a new mandate which is to love one another as He has loved them. Maundy is derived from the Latin word \u201cmandatum\u201d, meaning commandment.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Ask a question<\/em>: Why did Jesus wash his disciples\u2019 dirty feet? In those days, people wore sandals and the roads were dusty, so people\u2019s feet got very dirty from walking around. Jesus wanted to show his disciples that even though he was their master, he could be their servant and he wanted them to serve one another like he loved and served them.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Do an activity: <\/em><strong>\u201cI am a servant\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><br><br>(i) Prepare a basin of water with two towels \u2013 one for washing feet and one for drying feet. Have the child sit down on a stool. Place his or her feet in the basin and wash their feet with a towel. Dry their feet with the dry towel.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br>(ii) Pour away the water, refill with clean water, and exchange positions. Have your child wash your feet.\u00a0<br><br>(iii) This exercise can be repeated with siblings washing each other\u2019s feet.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Through this activity, children can learn to serve one another. He was crucified with criminals even though he was innocent and had no sin. He died for you and me and took our sins so that we can become God\u2019s children.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Ask a question<\/em>: Why is Good Friday good when it commemorates the death of a person &#8211; Jesus? Because of the sacrifice Jesus made for us by dying for us for our sins, we are forgiven of our sins and can have a relationship with God. It\u2019s good because it tells the good news of how much God loves us!&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Do an activity<\/em>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.focusonthefamily.ca\/content\/three-fun-object-lessons-that-help-explain-easter-to-kids\"><strong>\u201cThe Bridge\u201d<\/strong><\/a><sup> <\/sup><br>&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"158\" height=\"152\" src=\"https:\/\/ourlearningjourney.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/powerofthecross.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5809\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidssundayschool.com\/preschool\/activities\/power-of-the-cross\">Kids Sunday School Place<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>(i) Place two mats or two big pieces of cardboard on the floor. Tell the children one mat is the \u201cpeople mat\u201d and the other is the \u201cGod mat\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(ii) Have the children stand on the \u201cpeople mat\u201d. Bring the two mats close together so that the children can easily go back and forth between the two mats. Explain: When God created men and women, they walked closely with God.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>(iii) Move the two mats apart with enough distance that the children cannot jump from one mat to the other. Explain: When men and women sinned, they were separated from God and there was a big gap.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(iv) Have the children try to jump to the \u201cGod mat\u201d (which is too far away for them to reach). Explain: No matter what we do, we cannot reach God by ourselves.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>(v) Use cardboard or paper to create a cross and place it between the two mats as a \u201cbridge\u201d. Have the children walk on the bridge from the \u201cpeople mat\u201d to the \u201cGod mat\u201d. Explain: God sent His son Jesus to the world. Jesus had no sin, so He took the punishment for our sin and disobedience. He became our bridge. On the third day after Jesus died, He rose from the dead and appeared to his disciples. His tomb was empty!&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Ask a question<\/em>: Jesus died for us on the cross for us. Is he still dead today?&nbsp;No, He is alive today and He will be coming back one day!&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Do an activity<\/em>: <strong>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidssundayschool.com\/gradeschool\/object-talks\/truth-revealed\">Now I See!<\/a>\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><br><br>(i) Give the children a piece of white paper and a white crayon&nbsp;<br><br>(ii) Get them to write on the paper or help them to write&nbsp; \u201cJesus is alive\u201d or \u201cJesus has risen\u201d. Explain: When Jesus first told his disciples he would die and then rise up on the third day, they did not understand, just as the words in white cannot be seen.&nbsp;<br><br>(iii) Fold the paper and dip it in a glass of water with a few drops of red food colouring.<br><br>(iv) Remove the paper after one minute and let it dry on a paper towel. Explain: The words can be seen now.
