Many parents and children know Infant Care teacher Qu Xu Xiang, more fondly known as \u201cAuntie Qu\u201d, as a sweet soul with a warm and unique touch.\u202f  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having spent nearly seven years as a cook at another childcare, her path took an unexpected turn when the daily encounters with children ignited a desire to contribute more to their growth.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With unwavering determination, she transitioned from a cook to a beloved Chinese Infant Care (IFC) Teacher at Little Seeds Preschool (St. John\u2019s – St. Margaret\u2019s)<\/a>, where she has spent the past three years shaping our babies with love and dedication.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her journey to becoming a teacher is a celebration of resilience, passion, and the boundless possibilities that come with embracing one’s true calling. Her story is testament to the transformative power of passion and dreams and the opportunity to join the Anglican Preschool Services (APS) family has brought her dream to life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grateful for the chance to make a meaningful impact, she describes her current role as one filled with many happy and joyful moments.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Embracing joyful moments<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Auntie Qu says in Mandarin: \u201cWhen I think of the infants, it\u2019s like a living album that captures the joy of watching the little ones grow. The first babies I welcomed to Little Seeds Preschool (Noah\u2019s Ark)* in 2021 always bring back special memories close to my heart. The pictures and videos of growing babies aren’t just records, they show the love given to these little ones and the positive impact it has on them. Seeing them flourish brings me immense joy!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSeeing the babies develop from making baby sounds to forming words makes me very proud. The babies, like little buds, start to talk more when we encourage them. Seeing the children sleep peacefully in my arms is also very heartwarming. The babies trust us completely and sleep easily, that is so important.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From cook to educator<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For Auntie Qu, growing isn’t a linear path but a dance through various seasons. Moving from a cook to an educator isn’t just about changing job titles; it’s a transformation of who she is. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an educator, Auntie Qu discovered that she has the power to influence and shape the future of the little ones much more, and each day in the classroom is a step toward becoming a guiding light. She says that the growth isn’t just about the job \u2013 it’s a profound journey of becoming a better person.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

Being an educator really helped me grow as a person. The experiences might be different, but the change is deep and meaningful.<\/p>\nAuntie Qu<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

She has learnt valuable and profound lessons as an Infant Care teacher, one of which is respecting our babies.\u00a0\u00a0

\u201cI reflected on the struggle to manage temper and self-control in our human brokenness. I realised that we cannot impose our ways upon the children even for simple and routine milk feeds: every child is a unique individual deserving respect, someone to be honoured rather than controlled.\u201d Auntie Qu says.\u00a0

She recalls when caring for baby Levi who had started developing a stronger sense of self, she had to learn to let go of the idea of control and instead, walk alongside the child as he grows each day.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Navigating and overcoming challenges<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As an Infant Care teacher, language is a main barrier as babies do not yet know how to express themselves through words. Conducting activities with children requires a commitment to effective communication.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Auntie Qu says: \u201cIn the face of challenges, I remind myself to remain resolute\u2014to learn, try, and adapt. When working with children, we must keep trying and adjusting until everyone understands each other, creating a harmonious and vibrant learning environment where children can thrive.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even though the challenges are many, the rewards are also plenty.\u00a0\u00a0

Auntie Qu says: \u201cWorking in infant care is a special journey of sowing seeds and experiencing great fulfilment. We are the closest to these little hearts, besides parents.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt’s not just a job; it’s a responsibility to create a safe space for the children to grow, unlocking their fullest potential. I believe that each seed we sow will yield much in the future.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

Indeed, early childhood education is more than just a job, it is an invitation to be part of something profound \u2013 shaping not just the present but the future. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Auntie Qu\u2019s story serves as an inspiration, reminding us that dreams can be pursued at any stage of life. Auntie Qu not only takes physical care of the infants but also fosters an atmosphere of love and support, proving that the most beautiful stories often unfold in the most unexpected places. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
