Outdoor learning: The edible garden

Children grow, harvest, and eat their own vegetables

Little Seeds Preschool (Sonshine) embarked on an edible garden project which allowed our children to get in touch with nature and learn how to grow and harvest their own vegetables!

Through the planting experience, they learnt how to water the seeds and see how it germinates and finally grow in to a vegetable. They also learnt about the various textures of the soil and the functions of the different gardening tools, which are things they would not be able to learn in books.

This is one example of how we aim to nurture and develop each child through holistic and values-based education as we believe that children’s learning should not be confined to the classroom. We don’t just teach values during curriculum hours, but we believe that values are taught at teachable moments. And these are lifelong values that will carry throughout their lives!
